“It Is Not Impossible” – Pooja Vastrakar Backs Intent To Enforce Follow-on

The 22-year-old youngster Pooja Vastrakar received all the praise and accolades today for her persistent bowling and picking up crucial wickets. Jhulan Goswami and Pooja Vastrakar’s accurate bowling left Australia trailing by 234 after losing 4 wickets, as India declared at 377 for 8 on Day 3.

“Yes, it is very important to break the partnership of Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner tomorrow. We will have to keep breaking all the partnerships and make Australia bat again after forcing the follow-on,” said Vastrakar. “It is not Impossible; we have taken 4 wickets in two sessions. We will have come out with more intent and try to get them out. Anything can happen in the game of cricket”.

Pooja Vastrakar who took the wickets of both set batters Meg Lanning (38) and Tahlia McGrath (28) looked very positive in the post-match interview. When asked about taking the wicket of Captain Meg Lanning, Pooja replied “I was not focusing on the batter, I just focused on my line and length and sticked to my plan”. Pooja picked the wickets for both set batters today ended with figures of 2 for 31. “It was a great experience bowling with the pink ball and enjoyed bowling under the lights. The pink ball doesn’t move once it is old, compared to the red ball which moves a lot more,” she added.

“I was performing well in the nets but that was not reflecting in the Matches. Thus, the match practice and playing all three ODIs was a great help” mentioned Pooja Vastrakar. When asked about her preparation and coming back from injuries, she said “I was disappointed with my performance in the first ODI. Ramesh Sir helped in the Nets and asked me to stick to the process and not worry about the match result. He also helped me to work on my front arm action and I can already see it helping me”

“The spinners bowled a tight line, but the pacers took the wickets”, the medium-pacer just playing her second test added, “There is nothing in the pitch and it would help the pacers more”.
