India vs South Africa: India will be locking horns with South Africa in the second ODI of the three-match series at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 19. India registered a sensational 143-run victory in the first ODI of the multi-format series against South Africa on Sunday. The hosts, India are currently 1-0 up in the series, with two more games to be played.
In the first game, India rode on Smriti Mandhana’s hundred and a fine spell by spinners to outclass South Africa, but it was not enough to paper over some wide cracks in the batting department. Mandhana was incredible with the bat as she scored a scintillating ton. In her knock of 117 runs, she smashed 12 boundaries and one six. Deepti Sharma and Pooja Vastrakar provided the late flourish as India posted a total of 265/8 after 50 overs.
Debutant Asha Sobhana bamboozled the Proteas’ batters with her leg spin. She clinched four wickets as the hosts bundled the visitors. India will expect its top-order batters to produce a tidier effort in the second fixture.
On the other hand, South Africa have a great challenge ahead and will be looking to bounce back in the series. In the first ODI, South African bowler Ayabonga Khaka attempted to make an impact with a three-wicket spell. However, the side’s bowling attack failed to calm Mandhana’s performance and succumbed to the pressure during the run chase.
Furthermore, the visitors’ batting department also failed completely to make an impact with the bat. The team got all-out on just 122 runs, losing the game by 143 runs. South Africa will aim to produce an all-round performance to level-up the series with one game remaining.

India vs South Africa, 2nd ODI – Key Players
India
- Smriti Mandhana – Mandhana could be the best batter in the second ODI against South Africa. She is in incredible form at the moment. She scored a match-winning century in the opening game. The Indian opener smashed her first century at home, and her sixth in ODIs, and saved the hosts when they chose to bat first after suffering an early collapse.
- Asha Sobhana – Asha can prove to be the best bowler yet again in the second ODI against South African. Hailing from Kerala, the 33-year-old stunned the Proteas batters in her debut ODI match. Sobhana picked up four wickets in that match and was relatively economical in the last match. She could be a potent threat to the opposition batters in the forthcoming game.
South Africa
- Laura Wolvaardt – Though Wolvaardt couldn’t do much in the first game, she looked in fine form against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded series. Wolvaardt displayed outstanding performance in that series and scored 158 runs in two games, including a hundred. She would be inclined to give fine performances with the bat for her team. The South African batter is one of the best batters in their side.
- Ayabonga Khaka – Khaka was the pick of the bowler for the visitors as she ended with figures of 3/47 in the first fixture. She struck early and picked up wickets to put India under pressure. Her bowling troubled the Indian batters and the visiting team will expect the same performance from her in the second game of the series.
