Thailand delivered a commanding all-round performance to secure a thumping 78-run victory over Nepal in the Super Three clash of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier at the Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok.

Super Three Match: Nepal vs Thailand– Thailand Won By 78 Runs

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Nepal found themselves on the back foot early as Thailand’s top order laid the foundation for a formidable total.

Opening the innings, Nattaya Boochatham played a composed knock, anchoring the side with 50 runs off 42 balls, striking five boundaries. She was well supported by Aphisara Suwanchonrathi, who added a patient 29 from 43 deliveries in a 75-run opening partnership that set the platform for a late assault.

The real momentum shift came in the final overs courtesy of a blazing unbeaten 50 off just 28 balls from wicketkeeper-batter Nannapat Koncharoenkai, who smashed eight boundaries at a strike rate of 178.57.

She was ably assisted by Natthakan Chantham, who chipped in with an unbeaten 15 from 9 deliveries, helping Thailand reach an imposing 158 for 2 in their 20 overs.

Nepal’s bowling attack toiled but lacked penetration, with Manisha Upadhayay and Rajmati Airee picking up a wicket apiece. The rest of the bowlers remained wicketless, and extras added up to 14, further inflating Thailand’s total.

Riya Sharma was the most economical, conceding just 24 from her four overs, but Thailand’s accelerating run rate in the death overs proved too much for the Nepalese attack.

Chasing 159, Nepal faltered early and never truly recovered, eventually limping to 80 for 9 in their 20 overs. Thipatcha Putthawong struck twice in the powerplay, removing both openers, Samjhana Khadka and Rubi Poddar via LBW to leave Nepal in early trouble.

Kabita Kunwar tried to resist with a 33-ball 24, but her run-out signalled the beginning of a deeper collapse. Captain Indu Barma was dismissed for 7, and Puja Mahato fell for a six-ball duck, as Nepal’s innings failed to gather momentum.

Thailand’s spinners then completely strangled the middle and lower order. Onnicha Kamchomphu emerged as the chief destroyer, claiming a sensational four-wicket haul for just 11 runs, including a hat-trick in the 19th over that dismantled Nepal’s resistance.

She removed Roma Thapa, Ishwori Bist, and Riya Sharma in successive deliveries to register a remarkable milestone. Putthawong finished with figures of 3 for 14, while Suleeporn Laomi chipped in with a wicket of her own.

Rajmati Airee was the lone batter to remain unbeaten with a 27-ball 20, but with no support at the other end and the scoreboard pressure mounting, Nepal’s innings fizzled out. Notably, Airee also retired hurt on 6* before returning late in the innings, but by then, the contest was well out of Nepal’s grasp.

Thailand’s clinical showing with both bat and ball was underlined by a balanced team performance, and Nannapat Koncharoenkai was deservedly named Player of the Match for her dynamic half-century.

With this result, both Thailand and Nepal have now sealed their spots in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
