ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: Inoka Ranaweera Added To Sri Lanka Squad For The Mega Event

Sri Lanka have added the veteran spinner Inoka Ranaweera to their 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Ranaweera, the talented left-arm orthodox spinner, last featured for Sri Lanka during their unbeaten campaign in the T20 World Cup Qualifier earlier this year as well.

Meanwhile, pace bowler Kawya Kavindi failed to get a place in the squad, which mostly retains the squad that won the Asia Cup title at home. As expected, star batter Chamari Athapaththu will lead the team.

However, Sri Lanka have had a stunning show in international cricket recently, which saw them win the Asia Cup title after away series wins in England and South Africa as well. Naturally, the selectors have kept their faith in Vishmi Gunaratne, the 18-year-old player who showed her skill and potential beyond her age during that away tour of South Africa as well.

Meanwhile, Kavisha Dilhari, the middle-order batter who was also among the runs on that tour, also kept her place alongside 26-year-old Harshitha Samarawickrama, who was the Player of the Match in the Asia Cup final against India as well.

However, Sri Lanka are placed in Group A alongside India, Australia, Pakistan and New Zealand. They will begin their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on October 3 against Pakistan.
