ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025: Pakistan and Nepal Register Wins In Fourth Place Playoff Encounters

Day 7 of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 saw thrilling action in the fourth-place playoff encounters, with Pakistan and Nepal emerging victorious in their respective matches.

Pakistan U19s delivered a commanding 52-run win over Samoa, showcasing their dominance with both bat and ball. Meanwhile, Nepal U19s put on a clinical display to defeat Malaysia by seven wickets, led by an all-round masterclass from Puja Mahato, securing a comprehensive victory in just 11 overs.

Fourth Place Playoff Match 1: Pakistan U19 vs Samoa U19- Pakistan U19 Won By 52 Runs

Pakistan Under-19s registered a comprehensive 52-run victory over Samoa Under-19s in their ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup match at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval.

Opting to field first after winning the toss, Samoa’s decision to bowl seemed prudent early on but eventually unraveled under the pressure of a disciplined Pakistani performance with both bat and ball.

Pakistan’s innings got off to a brisk start as skipper Komal Khan hit two boundaries in her 8-ball cameo before being dismissed by Norah Salima. Maham Anees steadied the innings with a patient 28 off 42 deliveries, finding occasional support from Zoofishan Ayyaz and Minahil.

However, the highlight of the innings came from Fatima Khan, who provided a late surge with a blistering 25 off just 14 balls, including three boundaries and a six. Her aggressive knock, supported by contributions from the lower order, helped Pakistan post a competitive 136/8 in their 20 overs. Extras played a significant role, with Samoa conceding 21 runs, including 18 wides.

Samoa’s bowlers showed flashes of brilliance, led by Norah Salima, who finished with impressive figures of 3/20 in her four overs. Silepea Polataivao and Katrina Samu also chipped in with a wicket apiece, while Avetia Mapu and Verra Farane kept the scoring under control. However, their efforts were undermined by inconsistent lines and a lack of discipline in the field.

Chasing 137, Samoa’s innings got off to a disastrous start. Pakistan’s new-ball bowlers, led by the Player of the Match Haniah Ahmer, dismantled the top order within the first three overs. Ahmer struck twice in quick succession, removing opener Norah Salima and Olive Lefaga to leave Samoa reeling at 13/2. Captain Avetia Mapu fell shortly after, and the side struggled to recover from the early blows.

Despite a valiant effort from Stella Sagalala, who scored 15 off 10 balls, and Verra Farane’s 19 off 18, Samoa never looked comfortable against Pakistan’s disciplined bowling attack. Angel Sootaga and Stefania Pauga tried to anchor the innings in the middle overs, but the required run rate kept climbing. The lower order offered little resistance, and Samoa were eventually bowled out for 84 in 18.5 overs.

Haniah Ahmer was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 4/17 in her four overs. Her ability to extract movement and vary her pace proved too much for the Samoan batters. She was ably supported by Quratulain Ahsen, who finished with figures of 2/13, and Fatima Khan, who picked up 2/19. Tayyba Imdad also chipped in with a wicket, ensuring there was no let-up in pressure.

Fourth Place Playoff Match 2: Malaysia U19 vs Nepal U19- Nepal Won By 7 Wickets

In a low-scoring yet action-packed encounter at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval, Nepal Under-19s registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Malaysia Under-19s in the ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.

Electing to field after winning the toss, Nepal delivered a clinical performance with both ball and bat, led by an outstanding all-round display from Player of the Match, Puja Mahato.

Malaysia’s innings never found its footing, as their batters struggled against Nepal’s disciplined bowling attack. Puja Mahato set the tone immediately, dismissing Malaysia’s opener, Nur Aliya Binti Mohd Hairun, off the very first ball.

While Nuriman Hidayah offered some resistance with a brisk 15 off 23 balls, featuring three boundaries, the rest of the lineup faltered under pressure. Rachana Chaudhary complemented Mahato’s efforts with her clever variations, picking up three wickets for just five runs in three overs. The Malaysian innings ended in disarray at 45 in 16.5 overs, with seven batters failing to reach double digits.

Mahato’s figures of 4 for 9 in 3.5 overs showcased her ability to extract sharp turn and trouble the batters, while Chaudhary and Seemana KC chipped in to ensure there was no room for recovery. Extras played a small role in boosting Malaysia’s total, with seven wides and a few byes adding to the scoreboard.

Chasing a modest target of 46, Nepal faced an early hiccup as Marsya Qistina Binti Abdullah struck twice in quick succession, removing both openers, Sana Praveen and Sabitri Dhami, cheaply.

However, Puja Mahato, continuing her stellar day, anchored the chase with a calm and composed 23 not out off 32 balls. Her ability to find the gaps and rotate the strike ensured that Nepal stayed ahead in the chase. Jyotsnika Marasini contributed a quick 7 off 7 balls to accelerate the scoring before falling to Marsya, who finished with impressive figures of 3 for 18 in her four-over spell.

Despite the early setbacks, Nepal’s batters remained unperturbed, with Mahato finding a reliable partner in Seemana KC (4 not out off 10 balls) to guide the team home. The chase was completed in just 11 overs, with 54 balls to spare, reflecting Nepal’s dominance in every aspect of the game.
