The 6th match of the ICC U19 T20 World Cup 2023 will take place between West Indies and Ireland at North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom on January 15. While The West Indies will try to win against Indonesia and Ireland to make sure they perform well in the group stage as well.
While Ireland can be taken as favourites, the first day’s results showed anything can be possible. Right-hand batter Djenaba Joseph has seen a rapid rise since making a senior debut for Trinidad and Tobago in June 2022 where she played four T20Is in the recent senior series against England, initially playing in the middle order but having more success batting at the first drop as well.
Meanwhile, qualifying automatically as Full Members, Ireland’s U19 team have focussed on in-house preparation before the marquee eventthey are all set to take on their group rivals. Already with 24 senior international games under her belt, and a world record holder, 17-year-old Amy Hunter is one of the players to watch out for in the inaugural tournament. Leading her side at the historic event, she is the youngest-ever centurion in the history of international cricket, breaking the legend Mithali Raj’s record in a 2021 ODI against Zimbabwe as well.
Joining Hunter as a senior international in the squad is Georgina Dempsey, with the 18-year-old all-rounder has nine international appearances in her name in each of the white-ball formats as well. With their inclusion in the squad, a thrilling game can be expected as well.
