ICC U19 T20 World Cup 2023 Semi Final 1: IND vs NZ – Players Battle To Watch Out

The ICC U19 T20 World Cup 2023 has come to an end where the semi-finals and the final are left. The opening semi-final matchup is between India and New Zealand. The game will take place at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on Friday, January 27.

India has performed admirably in the tournament so far under the leadership of Shafali Verma. With victories over Scotland, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), they took first place in Group D with a net run rate of +4.039. But the Women in Blue’s Super 6 campaign didn’t exactly get off to the best of starts. At the North-West University No1 Ground in Potchefstroom, Australia handed them their first loss of the tournament.

However, India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets to take first place in Super 6 Group 1, on January 22. India chased down the goal in 7.2 overs after holding the Islanders to 59 for nine.

Shweta Sehrawat vs Tash Wakelin

During the current Twenty20 spectacular in South Africa, Shweta Sehrawat has been absolutely fantastic. In five games, she has scored 231 runs at an incredible strike rate of 142.59. The 18-year-old has utterly destroyed bowling attacks and given India quick starts. She intended to keep up the excellent effort and perform admirably in the semi-final.

For the New Zealand Women U19, the right-arm speedster, Tash Wakelin has been the best and the most successful bowler for her team, taking 6 wickets in four square-offs that counts her best of 14/3, with an average of 7 and an economy rate of 4.27.

Anna Browning vs Mannat Kashyap 

The leading run scorer for the New Zealand Women U19 team is Anna Browning, who has 126 runs at a strike rate of 129. She has hit three sixes and seventeen fours. For them, Browning is batting in the top spot. She has also contributed with her right-arm seam bowling, taking four wickets with a 2.64 economy. She participated in the December tour of India with the New Zealand Development team and recorded a three-for in the final game in Mumbai.

In the current major competition, Mannat Kashyap has been India’s standout with the ball. In just four games, she has taken down seven opponents, and she did it with an astonishing 4.53 economy. Mannat will try to work her magic with the ball once more when Shafali and company face New Zealand on Friday.

Other Players to watch out

Shafali Verma

At the conclusion of the Super Six stage, Shafali Verma, the captain of India and Sehrawat’s opening partner, is striking at 233.96 with 147 runs in her account, which is by far the highest total in the competition. She has scored 45 runs off 16 deliveries and 78 runs off 34 deliveries. However, she was unable to play in the last group game against Scotland.

Georgia Plimmer                                                                                                 

Plimmer has utilised her 13 international games of experience. She has 120 runs under her belt, which is the second-most for New Zealand, and a 157.89 strike rate. She opened the batting against West Indies and struck an unbeaten 41 off 22 balls. Against Pakistan, she scored a half-century at one drop.

The second semi-final, between England and Australia, will take place the same day at the same location in Potchefstroom following the first semi-final between India and New Zealand. On January 29th, the World Cup final will be held in Potchefstroom.
