ICC U19 T20 World Cup 2023: “Finally Ye New Zealand Ka Chakkar Khatam Hua” – Fans React After India defeated New Zealand

India has managed to reach the finals of the inaugural ICC U19 T20 World Cup 2023 by beating New Zealand in the semis. The Shafali Verma-led squad managed to defeat New Zealand comprehensively in Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. Opting to bowl first, the Indian bowlers were on the money right from the get-go and reduced New Zealand to 5/2 inside the first three overs.

After a 37-run partnership for the third wicket, New Zealand lost wickets at regular intervals to finish at 107/9 in 20 overs. Parshavi Chopra starred with the ball as her leg-breaks yielded 3 wickets at the expense of just 20 runs in 4 overs.

Skipper Shafali bowled 4 overs and gave away just 7 runs. She also took the wicket of Kate Irwin. Only Georgia Plimmer and Isabelle Gaze tried to put up some resistance at the crease.

With the bat in hand, Shafali got out cheaply but vice-captain Shweta Sehrawat and 17-year-old Soumya Tiwari steadied the ship. With a 62-run partnership, the duo of Shweta and Soumya knocked the wind out of the sails of New Zealand. The latter got out with only 13 runs remaining. Gongadi Trisha joined Shweta and ensured India won in just 14.2 overs.

By virtue of this win, India has managed to reach the finals. They will face England who made it to the finals after defeating arch-rivals Australia by just 3 runs in a thrilling 2nd Semi-Final. The highly-anticipated final is on Sunday and cricket fans will not want to miss the action.

Meanwhile, India’s win against New Zealand was lauded by the fans. For Indian fans, it was like revenge being taken. New Zealand has had India’s number in knockouts of ICC events. Be it the 2019 World Cup semis or the 2021 World Test Championship final, New Zealand has broken Indian hearts. The young girls have got one back for the nation and Indian fans came up with some hilarious memes after the result.
