An incredible game between South Africa and England. A nerve-wracking semi-final as the two teams held the solid ground until the end of the game in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023.

Ayobonga Khaka’s 4-fer and Tazmin Brits’ all-round performance led the South African team to an impressive win. The English team tried hard but wasn’t successful at chasing down the set score as they lost a few quick wickets.

After Australia booked their seats at the finals, the two teams, South Africa and England faced off in order to fill in the remaining gap. Much expectations from both teams as they had had an incredible stage-level clash, England winning all their games and South Africa displaying skilful games without disappointing the spectators and the supporters. The two teams clashed at the Newlands Cricket Ground, where South Africa decided to bat first.

A bold decision from the Proteas, given the fact that England bore such a strong batting line-up, yet the power-loaded performance observed from the openers seemed to turn the tables. The ever-impressive Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened and smashed quick runs, giving the required start to the game.

The two played a responsible game and led the team to a safe score. The momentum they offered at the start gave the team the required strength to stand taller in the upcoming overs. Wolvaardt secured 53 runs, whereas Tazmin played a brilliant 68 runs. The two secured the major runs for the team and with Marizanne Kapp’s 27 runs contribution, the South African side settled for a total of 164 runs at the end of 20 overs.

Not a very impressive inning for the English bowlers. Huge responsibility lay ahead of them as they now had to chase down the huge score set.

Danni Wyatt and Sophie Dunkley opened the bat for the English side but no major contribution from the duo. They were expected to set the ground for the chase, but Shabnim Ismail’s superb bowling skills first caught Dunkley into her trap and then took Alice Capsey for a duck.

A poor start to the second inning for England, especially Alice Capsey’s early wicket was a major shocker. Natalie Sciver did try to hold the team’s ground, but she too failed. After Wyatt’s wicket in the 10th over, the team seemed to have lost their poise.

Laudable bowling from the South African side. Defending a score of 164, the South African team did not fail to impress. The entire lower-order batting line-up collapsed drastically with Ayobanga Khaka’s masterclass bowling. The English team was able to put together a total of 158 runs for a loss of 8 wickets.

Shabnim Ismail and Khaka shined with ball in hand. An impressive game from the South Africans, deserving their spot in the finals. Tazmin was named the Player of the Match. A close game indeed.

South Africa will now face Australia in the finals on Sunday.
