ICC T20 World Cup 2023: South Africa vs Sri Lanka, Match 1 – Match Details, Live Streaming, Key Players, Head To Head Records, Pitch Report, Weather Forecast, Probable Playing XIs, Squads, Dream11 Prediction

South Africa will take on Sri Lanka in the 1st match of Group A in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 on 10th February at Newlands, Cape Town. The hosts South Africa are one of the powerhouses to watch out for in the T20 World Cup 2023. They have a deadly lineup, and the home advantage is an added boost for the side.

The Proteas are on a four-game unbeaten streak which includes three wins and one no-result. They will be high on confidence after winning the recently concluded Tri-Series, including West Indies and India, where they defeated the latter by five wickets in the finals. Tazmin Brits has been their top performer, recently scoring 182 runs in the last seven games at an average of 45.50.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s last T20I stint came in October 2022, when they reached the finals of the Women’s Asia Cup. Unfortunately, they suffered an eight-wicket defeat against India but will be happy with how they performed throughout the tournament. All eyes will be on Inoka Ranaweera, who took 13 wickets in that campaign in eight games.

The Sri Lankan side doesn’t have a great record against South Africa, losing their last five games against them. Thus, they will be aiming to start their season on a high note and create an upset.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: South Africa vs Sri Lanka, Match 1 – Key Players

South Africa:

Marizanne Kapp: Kapp has represented South Africa in 88 T20 matches, is a vital all-rounder for the team. She has scored 1120 runs with a strike rate of more than 95 in her 88 matches. Her bowling figures include 67 wickets in 88 matches with an economy of 5.47. Since she has not been at her best lately, she will look to bring back her momentum and help her team on the big stage.

Shabnim Ismail: The opening fast-medium pacer, being the most experienced and having played in every Women’s World T20 Cup, is a key player for the South African squad. She has played 107 T20 matches in which she has taken 115 wickets with an economy of 5.76. She also holds the record by standing second in bowling most maidens in T20 Internationals. Though the host team suffered a loss in their opening warm-up game, Ismail dismissed two crucial players by giving away 30 runs in her four overs.

Sri Lanka:

Chamari Athapaththu: The captain of the Sri Lankan team, has played 106 T20 international games and has scored 2181 runs with a strike rate of 102.05. The Sri Lankan side are banking on her to lead from the front and help them get off to a flyer. We can expect her to be explosive and produce a match-winning inning.

Inoka Ranaweera: A key left-arm orthodox of the Sri Lankan squad, has played 62 T20 internationals. She has taken 68 wickets with an economy of 5.76 in her 62 T20 representations.
