ICC T20 World Cup 2023: As the ICC T20 World Cup is around the corner, The All-India Women’s Selection Committee has announced the Team India squad for the upcoming tri-series in South Africa as well as for the marquee event. While the tri-series will be played in January, the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 will take place soon after in February as well.
Veteran India speedster Shikha Pandey has been recalled to the Indian squad for the upcoming series. Notably, she has not featured in any game for India in more than a year whereas her last appearance came in October 2021. Her inclusion will now add more experience to the pace attack that already has talented Renuka Singh Thakur, who made headlines since her debut only last year and newcomer Anjali Sarvani as well.
On the other hand, spin all-rounder Sneh Rana, who was dropped for the series against Australia, has been added to the reserves alongside Sabbhineni Meghana and pacer Meghna Singh. However, they have been added to the squad for the tri-series in South Africa, featuring West Indies which will help them to get used to with conditions. Notably, allrounder Pooja Vastrakar’s inclusion will be subject to fitness after she was ruled out of the Australia T20Is due to an injury.
However, the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 will begin on 10th February 2023, where Team India are set to begin their campaign on 12th February against their arch-rival Pakistan in Cape Town. Team India is placed in Group 2 with England, West Indies, Pakistan, and Ireland. The top two teams at the end of the group stage from each group will play in the semi-finals. Notably, the final will be held on 26th February 2023 in Cape Town as well.
