As Ireland and India faced each other for their final group stage game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2023, the two teams weren’t able to play a complete game due to rain. It literally rained on their parade, as Ireland went in for a chase.
An important game for India in order to make it to the qualifiers. Ireland had no hope but did play a tough game in order to end the group stage on a better note. Huge contribution from Smriti Mandhana who helped India secure an easy win.
The game at St. George’s Oval started off with India winning the toss and opting to bat first. Shafali Verma and Mandhana started off with the bat. A genuine start for India, as Mandhana and Verma batted pretty well. They laid the foundation for the game and scored some quick runs.
Verma lost an unfortunate wicket to Laura Delany’s delivery as Amy Hunter caught her. Verma went back securing 24 runs but the game was well-managed and carried forward by Mandhana.
Harmanpreet Kaur played her crucial game as she secured a total of 3000 runs, becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to have achieved this laurel. Second to Rohit Sharma Harmanpreet has indeed made women players from over the world proud.
Smriti played a major game today. Her 87 runs off 56 deliveries were crucial for the team. Brilliant execution and lively shots made her the talk of the town. While the Indian team played a quick inning, they lost some steady wickets.
