The mighty Indians square off against the Ireland side in the 18th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 on Monday.
India will look to book their spot in the knockouts with a win against Ireland. After registering back-to-back wins against Pakistan and the West Indies, the Women in Blue lost their first match of the campaign against England by 11 runs on Saturday. Opting to bowl first, India reduced England to 29/3 thanks to a superb spell from Renuka Singh.
Nat Sciver and captain, Heather Knight stitched a crucial 51-run partnership. Amy Jones capitalized on the platform laid by Sciver and Knight and smashed 40 off just 27 balls. Chasing a target of 152, Smriti Mandhana played a not-so-fluent knock of 52 in 41 balls. Other batters couldn’t find the fence too often until Richa Ghosh smashed a 34-ball 47 but was left to do too much in the end.
Ireland became the first team to be eliminated as they lost their first three matches against England, Pakistan, and the West Indies. In their most recent match, Ireland posted 137/9 in the stipulated 20 overs against the Windies. Hayley Matthews was the star with the bat as her unbeaten 53-ball 66 helped West Indies win their first match of the competition.
The Irish players will be looking to enjoy themselves and end the campaign on a high. They have some exciting youngsters in their ranks who will benefit immensely from this exposure. Orla Prendergast has shown a lot of potential in the tournament and played good knocks against Pakistan and the West Indies. Cricket fans will be looking forward to seeing how she performs against the formidable Indian bowling attack.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: India vs Ireland, Match 18 – Key Players
Smriti Mandhana: The stylish left-handed batter might have scored a scratchy half-century in the match against England, but runs under the belt would have surely given her some confidence. Smriti’s form is crucial for India going forward in the tournament. Indian fans will be hoping that the Mumbaikar finds her flow against Ireland.
Richa Ghosh: The destructive wicket-keeper batter is yet to be dismissed in the three innings she has played so far in the tournament. She has scored 122 runs in three innings with a blistering strike rate of 141.86. If Richa gets going against Ireland, it will be a spectacle for neutral fans and fans of India. Irish fans won’t want that to happen though.
Orla Prendergast: The 20-year-old has been quite impressive in the tournament thus far. With 109 runs from 3 innings, Prendergast is among the top run-getters in the tournament thus far. She will hope to finish off on a high.
Gaby Lewis: Just one year older than Prendergast, Gaby Lewis is an important player at the top of the order for Ireland. She forged a 90-run partnership against the West Indies alongside Prendergast and will hope to continue in the same vein against India. Lewis will look to bat through the innings while the other batters will have to bat around her.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: India vs Ireland, Match 18 – Pitch Report and Weather Forecast
Two matches have been won by teams batting first while the same number of matches have been won by teams batting second in St. George’s Park in this tournament. India might look to bat first and put a mountain of runs in front of Ireland. The Irish players have lost two matches while batting first while their loss to Pakistan came when they were chasing. Batting first might not be a bad option for Ireland as the batters will be able to play freely without having a target to chase.
There is a 20% chance of rain on Monday. The rain is predicted to start from around 6 pm when the match might be nearing its conclusion. The temperature is expected to be hovering just above 20 degrees.
