On Tuesday, England and Pakistan will play their final group-stage encounter in Newlands, Cape Town in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2023.

England notched up consecutive wins against West Indies and Ireland before taking on India on Saturday.  After setting a target of 152 for the Indians, the English bowlers bowled in the right areas to keep the Indian batters in check through most parts of the innings. Sarah Glenn and Sophie Ecclestone starred with the ball, picking up 3 wickets between them. They won the match by 11 runs to remain unbeaten in the competition.

The most satisfying thing from England’s perspective will be how they recovered from 29/3 when they were batting. Nat Sciver and skipper Heather Knight consolidated the innings before Amy Jones hit a spectacular 27-ball 40 to give put on a fighting total on the board. Having already sealed their place in the semifinals, England will be looking to keep the momentum going in their final group match.

Pakistan, on the other hand, has been eliminated. They lost to India in their first match before annihilating Ireland in their following encounter. Against the Windies, Pakistan bowlers showed a lot of discipline to restrict the Hayley Matthews-led side to 116/6 in 20 overs. The experienced Nida Dar was exceptional with the ball as she picked up 2 wickets while giving away just 13 runs in 4 overs.

With the bat, the in-form Muneeba Ali departed cheaply and fellow opener Sidra Ameen also didn’t last long. Bishmah Maroof and Nida Dar tried to stitch a partnership but couldn’t accelerate at the right time. The experienced duo scored just 44 runs in 53 balls. Aliya Riaz tried to accelerate but was left with too much to do in the end. Her enterprising 23-ball 29 went in vain as Pakistan fell 3 runs short.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: England vs Pakistan, Match 19 – Pitch Report, Weather Forecast

3 matches have been won in Cape Town by teams batting first and 4 have been won by teams batting second. New Zealand posted a daunting total of 189/3 in 20 overs against Bangladesh. This is the highest team total scored not only in Cape Town but also in the tournament. Ireland accumulated only 95 against Pakistan and this is the lowest team total scored. With not much on the line, the team winning the toss might look to bat first and have some fun.

No rain is predicted for the day and we should have no stoppages in play. The temperature is expected to be around 17-18 degrees during the match hours.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: England vs Pakistan, Match 19 – Head to Head

England leads the head-to-head scoreline by a comfortable 13-1 margin. On paper, the English squad has a lot of depth and firepower but cricket is a funny game where anything could happen.

ICC T20 World Cup 2023: England vs Pakistan, Match 19 – Key Players

England:

Alice Capsey: The right-handed batter played a blistering knock of 22-ball 51 against Ireland. However, she has not been able to get going in the other matches. The England management would love to see her finish the group stage with a confidence-boosting knock.

Nat Sciver Brunt: The experienced all-rounder showed her class against India. She scored a vital half-century under pressure. Currently, she is the highest run-scorer for England and will hope to continue the good form against Pakistan as well.

Pakistan:

Muneeba Ali: The left-handed batter played a breathtaking knock against Ireland as she scored the only century of the tournament thus far. She will be crucial to her team’s chances as a solid start could allow the middle order to play freely.

Nashra Sandhu: The 25-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler has been immaculate with her lines and lengths and has not only kept a check on the runs but also picked up 7 wickets. Expect her to test the charismatic English batters.
