ICC T20 World Cup 2020: South Africa Hope to Earn Two More Points over Thailand

South Africa started their campaign with a thumping win over England, their first-ever win over the 50-overs champion in the T20 World Cup. The win came on the back of all-round effort where Dane van Niekerk and Marizanne Kapp added more than 80+ runs, bowlers took regular wickets and restricted the opponents within a below-par.

However, South Africa will look forward to replicating their performance against Thailand too on Friday. On the other hand, Thailand had West Indies at 27/3 in their opening match, playing like a pro. But against the heavyweights England, Thailand were thrashed in every way which made England earn the two easy points.

Thailand have never played South Africa before in a T20I, so the game is going to be excited. Dane van Niekerk could prove to be the key player for  — with the bat and the ball, like against England — but Thailand are expected to give a tough fight.

“This year feels different. After the T20 World Cup in 2018, there was a lot of reflection and we felt as a batting unit we weren’t doing what we needed to do,” said Chloe Tryon. “We reflected a lot individually and knew what we had to change. We’ve worked hard in the off-season and playing in the Women’s Big Bash League has really helped some of the squad.”

“We’re obviously very disappointed in our performance, we felt we could have done a lot better,” said Nattaya Boochatham before the game. “We were very excited to get the chance to play against one of the world’s best teams but going into the South Africa game, we need to execute our plans more consistently and be more clinical on the field.”
