ICC ODI Rankings: Tammy Beaumont Grabs Top Spot; Mithali Raj Retains Her Place

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the rankings on Tuesday. England opener Tammy Beaumont has jumped upto five places to stay at the top position after having a stunning show in the three-match One Day International series against New Zealand which they won 2-1. Meanwhile, Indian opener Smriti Mandhana slipped two places to sixth and India ODI captain Mithali Raj retained her place at 9th.

The 29-year-old Tammy Beaumont has surpassed the likes of West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor and New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Australia captain Meg Lanning and currently leads by 16 points as well. Notably, this is the very first time in her 12-year ODI career that she placed at No. 1, her previous best ranking was at fourth position in July 2019.

Tammy Beaumont has gained a huge 49 points after finishing the series as the leading run-getter with 231 runs, which comprised knocks of 71, 72* and 88* as well. Her teammate Natalie Sciver has found a place in the top 10 after scoring 96 runs in the ODI series against New Zealand whereas the captain Heather Knight has moved three slots to reach 13th position after scoring 135 runs. Another England batter Amy Jones has jumped up two places in the rankings, from 27th to joint-25th position as well.

Meanwhile, Sciver, the medium-pacer, has moved upto 12 places to a career-best 22nd in the list of bowlers as well after finishing the series with five wickets. Her all-round effort also witnessed her moving up three places to fifth position in the all-rounders’ list led by none other than Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry.

On the other hand, England’s pace spearhead Katherine Brunt placed at ninth whereas the young Sophie Ecclestone jumped up one place to be at 14th and Sarah Glenn moved up three places to 44th as well.

Meanwhile, New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr’s match-winning effort of unbeaten 72 and four for 42 in the final ODI has seen her 10 places up to 47th position among batters and up to two places to 11th among bowlers as well. The youngster is now in the 13th position in the all-rounders’ list as well. Brooke Halliday, the debutant, who smashed the consecutive fifties both times she batted, has entered into the rankings in 59th position while medium-pace bowler Hannah Rowe has gained three places to reach 43rd position among bowlers in the list.

On the other hand, Team India didn’t feature in any international series for the past one year since the global pandemic novel COVID-19 and its imposed lockdown hit the entire world and brought it to a standstill. However, Mithali Raj with 687 points and Smriti Mandhana with 732 points are the only two Indian batters in the top 10.

As far as bowlers are concerned, pace bowler Jhulan Goswami has retained her fifth place in the latest ICC ODI Players’ rankings with 691 points. Apart from her, Poonam Yadav (679), Shikha Pandey (675) and Deepti Sharma (639) are the other Indian bowlers in the top-10 as well. Notably, all of them have retained their previous ranking spots as well.

Meanwhile, Australia’s spin maestro Jess Jonassen has retained her top spot in the bowling chart with 804 points, followed by her teammate Megan Schutt (735). Among the all-rounders, Deepti Sharma has retained her fourth spot with 359 points headed by Ellyse Perry with 460 points as well.
