‘Having WIPL Will Surely Help A Lot’ – Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur led Team India went down fighting in a last-over finish losing the multi-format series with still one match to go. The short format captain looked in a good touch today scoring quick 28 off 20 balls but couldn’t take it further to help post a big score as India gave a target of 119 to the Australians.

“We are doing good in practice. We just need more clear and positive plans. I think we were very hard on the ball and we need to be more patient and look for 20-30 runs more,” mentioned Harmanpreet Kaur who looked very positive in the post-match interview.

When asked about the bowling, she said “The first six overs were very good, and we bowled to our plan. We could have done better to stick our plan to execute in the death overs. The ball was not gripping well so went to the medium-pacers, but we didn’t bowl as per the plan. Shikha is a very experienced bowler and swings the ball very well and that ball was a delight to watch”. She added “Even when we didn’t have a decent total on board, the bowlers still bowled very well. Even though the result was not in our favour, we need to appreciate good performances”.

Young all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar played a great knock of 37 off 26 bowls at the end of the innings that helped India to reach a defendable score. Harmanpreet who has already expressed some praise for the young talent said “We were always looking for someone who can finish innings for up and Pooja is doing very well and the way she batted was outstanding, as the wicket was not very easy to bat on”.

The Captain looked very positive and determined to perform well in the last match of the tour. “Our Approach is very good. Day by day we are improving. We are doing well in patches. We just need to use the momentum and show some maturity on the field. That will be very good for us.”

Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged the importance of WBBL and Indian players being a part of this exciting league. “Australia is doing well because they play good cricket in the whole season of WBBL. It gives the required confidence to the youngsters to play on the international level. Having played 40-50 matches at that level helps the players to be confident and handle pressure”.

She also agreed that “Having WIPL will surely help a lot, especially the youngsters. Having such 20-30 matches at the domestic level helps to build confidence and ensure they are not lost at the international level. Having 8 girls from the Indian squad playing in WBBL is good. It will help the players to keep playing at a good level before the world cup”.
