Harmanpreet Kaur Tested Positive For COVID-19

Team India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been tested positive for the global pandemic novel coronavirus. Kaur, who sustained an injury during the final ODI against South Africa, didn’t play in the T20I series as well. In her absence, Smriti Mandhana led the team for the three-match T20I series.

According to the Tweet by The Tribune journalist Karam Prakash, Kaur has reported positive and the health department has revealed that she has symptoms. However, she was asked to home-quarantine now. He tweeted: “Patiala: Indian cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur has tested positive for Coronavirus. Health department informed that she was symptomatic, however, she has been home isolated. @thetribunechd @BCCI @ImHarmanpreet #cricket #coronavirus”

“She is self-isolating at home. She got tested yesterday and the report came positive today morning. She had mild fever since four days so thought it was best to get tested. She is doing fine otherwise and should recover soon,” a source close to the player told PTI. “She was getting tested regularly during the South Africa series so she must have caught the virus after that only.”

However, India lost both the five-match One Day International series as well as the T20I series, where they faced 4-1 and 2-1 series defeat. While it was India’s first ODI series in more than a year, they last featured in an international series last year during the final of the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. On the other hand, Australia came here after having a successful home series against Pakistan.

Moreover, they had a successful domestic series and some of the players were featured in the Women’s Big Bash League last year as well. And, these certainly helped them to sweep India in their backyard. After the first ODI defeat, Harmanpreet Kaur reckoned that the defeat could possibly be the reason for not playing for a long time.

“We didn’t get any international cricket for a year, we just played three IPL games. But other than that, we didn’t get any time as a unit. You need to get ready as a unit and spend some together on the field. We are one of the sides that like to learn from our mistakes. We want to learn from our mistakes and prove ourselves,” Harmanpreet Kaur said at the post-match press conference.

“When you’re playing after a long time, there are chances that you can collapse. They also bowled well and we were also just giving our wickets away. We need to be pricey with our wickets and should not give them away so easily. From the next game, we will look at these things and create some partnerships. In the long format, you need those partnerships,” Kaur added.
