Young pace bowler Fatima Sana has been named Pakistan’s captain for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, to be played in UAE in October. She takes over the reins from veteran allrounder Nida Dar.
Sana, 22, has previously led the emerging team and her domestic sides and has also stood in for Nida Dar in a couple of ODIs on Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in December 2023, where her team secured a thrilling Super-Over victory as well.
However, the rest of the squad has been named as expected ones, with only one change made to the squad that played in the recently concluded Women’s Asia Cup. Sadaf Shamas is part of the 15-member squad in place of wicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi, who will be a reserve player.
Out of the fifteen players named, ten were also part of the 2023 T20 World Cup squad – Fatima, Shamas, Muneeba Ali, Sidra Amin, Omaima Sohail, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu, Aliya Riaz, Tuba Hassan and Dar. Meanwhile, uncapped left-arm pace bowler Tasmia Rubab is a fresh addition while left-arm spinner Sadia’s inclusion is subject to fitness as well. PCB has also named a couple of non-travelling reserves.
The tournament, which recently shifted to UAE from Bangladesh due to the unrest in the latter, will begin on October 3 and go on till October 20.
