England clinched the T20I series against West Indies in emphatic fashion, securing a commanding nine-wicket victory in the second match at Hove. England secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-match T20I series against West Indies with a commanding nine-wicket victory in the second T20I at Hove.

One of the standout moments of the game came from Sophia Dunkley, who took a sensational one-handed catch to dismiss Zaida James, leaving spectators stunned.

Sophia Dunkley’s stunning catch

Sophia Dunkley produced a moment of brilliance in the second T20I between England and the West Indies at the County Ground in Hove, taking a stunning one-handed catch to dismiss Zaida James. Positioned at mid-wicket, Dunkley reacted instinctively as James attempted to loft the ball over the in-field. With remarkable athleticism, she stretched out her left hand and plucked the ball out of the air, leaving spectators and commentators in awe.

Beyond her fielding heroics, Dunkley also contributed with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 24 off 25 balls, playing a supporting role in England’s dominant chase. England comfortably won the match by 9 wickets, restricting West Indies to 81/9 in 20 overs before chasing down the target in just 9.2 overs.

Arlott’s Match-Winning Spell

Playing just her second international match, Em Arlott delivered a standout performance, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs, dismantling West Indies’ batting lineup. She dismissed key batters Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor and Zaida James, courtesy of a sharp catch by Sophia Dunkley, and later took a catch herself to dismiss Shemaine Campbelle, West Indies’ top scorer with 26 runs.

England’s Bowling Attack Fires

England’s bowlers maintained relentless pressure throughout the innings. Charlie Dean struck twice in quick succession, finishing with 2 for 12 in four overs, while Lauren Bell set the tone early, taking 3 for 28, including a wicket in the opening over. Issy Wong was equally effective, conceding just 10 runs in four overs while picking up a wicket. West Indies struggled to build partnerships and were restricted to 81 for 9 in 20 overs.

Sciver-Brunt Leads the Chase

England’s chase got off to a shaky start as Danni Wyatt-Hodge was dismissed on the first ball of the innings by Zaida James. However, captain Nat Sciver-Brunt took control, guiding England to victory with an authoritative knock. She led a powerplay charge of 49 for 1, bringing up England’s fifty with consecutive boundaries off Hayley Matthews—one driven through the covers and the other reverse-swept.

Sciver-Brunt reached her 17th T20I fifty, benefiting from a dropped catch by Cherry-Ann Fraser, and sealed the win with a leg-side four off Afy Fletcher. Sophia Dunkley, who had starred in the first match with an unbeaten 81, played a supporting role, finishing 24 not out off 25 balls. England comfortably chased down the target in 9.2 overs, finishing at 82 for 1. With this win, England took a 2-0 lead in the series, making a strong statement under their new leadership.

England’s Commanding Victory in the 1st T20I

West Indies, led by Hayley Matthews, posted 146/7, with the skipper playing a sensational lone hand, scoring an unbeaten 100 off 67 balls. At one stage, the West Indies were struggling at 87/6, but Matthews ensured they reached a competitive total, bringing up her century on the final ball of the innings.

England’s bowling attack was impressive, with Lauren Bell taking 2/29, while debutant Em Arlott delivered a solid performance with 1/28. Issy Wong, recalled to the squad after England’s Ashes struggles, picked up 1/35, showing promise in her return to international cricket.

England’s chase was clinical, reaching the target in 16.3 overs, thanks to Sophia Dunkley’s unbeaten 81 off 55 balls. She was well supported by Heather Knight, who remained 43 not out, guiding England to victory.
