ENG vs IND: Team India Ready To Take On England In The Final T20I

ENG vs IND: India will look to continue their winning ways when they take on England in the third and final T20I at Bristol on September 15, with the series level 1-1. After losing the first match by 9 wickets, India had put up a strong all-round display, especially in fielding, to beat England by 8 wickets in the second T20I and level the series. Now, the action shifts to the third T20I – which is a virtual final now.

India must avoid complacency

India came back strongly in the second T20I to keep the series alive. However, India should not go overboard with their success, and must not relax until the third match is bagged to mark a record overseas T20I series win for women’s cricket in India.

India will once again depend heavily on their star batswoman in Smriti Mandhana who rallied the chase in the second match with 79 not out. Mandhana and her fellow opening partner Shafali Verma had combined to put up 55 runs in the powerplay overs. And hence, the two openers once again be the key to India’s success in the third T20I. However, India is perhaps too over-dependent on the pair and hence, one of them must anchor the chase to support a brittle middle-order.

Sneh Rana was the star bowler of the second T20I, taking 3 wickets for 24 in her 4 overs. She will be expected to do an encore and shut England in their own den. A team’s effort was on display in the second T20I. And India must ensure it keeps up with the good work to bag a rare series win overseas.

Eng vs Ind: Players to watch out for

Mandhana looked in great touch in the second T20I, almost toying with the field placings as she found gaps with ease. She also played over the top to make the best use of powerplay overs. She and her opening partner Shefali made merry in the powerplay overs, but Mandhana was the best of the two. With the third match being a virtual final, Mandhana, who looked in great touch, could be the game-changer for India in the third T20I.

England was exposed in the second match

India exposed England in all departments with their skilful bowling, batting, and fielding in the second T20I. Also, it was baffling to see England captain Amy Jones choosing to bat first on a good batting track in the second match. India then exposed England players’ weaknesses at the top of the order, and from there on, India just stifled their opponents with tight bowling and fielding. Also, England showed their weakness against slow bowling, with Sneh Rana taking 3/24.

However, England has had some positives to take from the loss in the second T20I. First, England showed they have the batting depth, with No 7 Freya Kemp getting a confidence-boosting fifty. It showed that although England’s top-order to middle-order is brittle, they have quality all-rounders to fall back on in case of a collapse.

England needs to put this disappointing loss behind and come out all guns blazing to thwart India’s challenge in the third T20I. England is probably going through a mini-transition and must regroup to avoid an embarrassment in the T20I series.

Eng vs Ind: Players to watch out for

Sophia Dunkley scored a fifty in the first T20I. But she was a flop in the second match. Dunkley, however, would be itching to have a go at India in the third T20I to give her team the best start and pave the platform for a big total or set up a chase.

Head to head:

India has the best chance now to win a T20I series in England. The last time India played a T20I series in England, they lost 2-1. In the last five T20Is between the two teams, India has won 3 and lost 2. Overall, India has a poor record against England, winning 7 and losing 18 in 25 T20Is.

Pitch report of the third T20I at Bristol:

The pitch in Bristol is a high-scoring ground with 7 scores of 180-plus in 12 innings. The highest score on this ground is 234/6 by England against South Africa in 2022. India too has scored above 200 (201/3) against England in 2018. Hence, it looks like a great batting pitch, with teams looking to set up a target and then apply the choke.
