ENG vs IND: Amy Jones Proud Of Her Side, Says “When We’re Relaxed, We Play Our Best”

ENG vs IND: England’s stand-in captain, Amy Jones has congratulated her side for their phenomenal 9-wicket victory over the silver medallists of the Commonwealth Games. She seems immensely proud, especially with a team that is missing some notable veterans. Coming from a not-so-happy place after their disappointing Commonwealth championship, a win over one of the world’s best sides, has brought wide smiles and lots of confidence to the team.

She said, “With three key players not here, it would have been easy for us to let that affect us and not play how we want to play. To come out and play so freely and confidently with a relatively inexperienced side is brilliant to see. I’m really proud.”

She also congratulated the team for their collaborative efforts, overshadowing in the opponents in all three departments. She knows that the victory has brought in lots of confidence and would love to carry forward the same in the upcoming games.

“As a group, all we said was go out and bring the energy,” Jones said. “If you look around at the team we’ve got, it’s young and excitable and lots of fearless cricketers and we play at our best when we’re enjoying it, and everyone is supporting each other and that’s exactly what the atmosphere was. When we’re relaxed, we play our best.”

ENG vs IND: Amy Jones praises the star of the match, Sarah Glenn

Speaking of all individual performers, Amy added, “[Alice Capsey] is really impressive, isn’t she? She’s brave but there’s nothing reckless about it, it’s just class. She has all the shots, and she backs herself to execute them. I’m sure it’s the start of a very exciting career for her.”

Sophia Dunkley’s steady 61 runs, helped the side chase the runs conveniently with 7 more overs to spare. She played a brilliant inning and was lauded for her performance.

“Dunks [Sophia Dunkley] is a perfectionist and she’ll look at things she would have wanted to do differently but from the side-lines it’s so impressive that she can battle through the start and play the shots she did so freely. She’s hard on herself but I think that’s why she achieves such a high level at a young age.”

Finally speaking of the Player of the Match, Sarah Glenn, Amy said, “She was great. She’s been a real container for us for a while now, she builds dots and she’s so hard to face. She can really build pressure and it’s great that she got the wickets today. She’s a brilliant player for us and key through the middle overs.”
