CWG 2022: Group B Teams England and South Africa will take on each other in the 7th match of the Commonwealth Games. The match will take place at Edgbaston in Birmingham, England. While England are on a high after winning their opening match vs Sri Lanka, it would be interesting to see how South Africa enters the game after losing their opening tie vs New Zealand. Also going by the fact that South Africa recently lost both ODI and T20 Series vs England, it’s certainly going to be a big challenge for them to out past England at CWG.

England bowled extremely well in their first match to hold Sri Lanka at 106/9. They picked up a wicket off the very first delivery and kept things under control by taking scalps at regular intervals. Although they did not get the services of Heather Knight, their depth and balance helped them win as well.

England’s Key Players:

Sophie Ecclestone and Nat Sciver will be two important players to watch out for. While Sophie is one of the finest English bowlers in the limited overs format, she becomes all the more important for her wicket-taking abilities at crucial junctures. On the other hand, the experienced Nat Sciver who is also the stand-in skipper has really looked good off lately and a lot will rely on her in the batting department.

Probable XI:

Sophia Dunkley, Danielle Wyatt, Natalie Sciver (c), Amy Jones (wk), Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Issy Wong, Katherine Brunt, Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn, Freya Kemp

On the other hand, South Africa were not able to put pressure on the New Zealand batters as they failed to pick up early wickets. Nonkululeko Mlaba was the only bowler who could make a breakthrough in the game. While their key player Marizanne Kapp is out of the league, they have Mignon du Preez (26), Laura Wolvaardt (28), Chloe Tryon (39), and Sune Luus (32) and they all have contributed with the bat. Seeing that, a cracking game can be expected in Birmingham.

South Africa’s Key Players:

From South Africa, Shabnam Ismail and Laura Wolvaardt will be key players. Shabnam who has close to 300 International wickets will try to use her experience in this crucial match vs England while SA will also need the consistency of Laura Wolvardt at the top of the order. Laura needs to fire at the top if SA wants to make a big total on the board.

Probable XI:

Anneke Bosch, Tazmin Brits, Mignon du Preez, Laura Wolvaardt, Chloe Tryon, Sune Luus (C), Delmi Tucker, Sinalo Jafta (wk), Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, Nonkululeko Mlaba

Pitch Report

As many of us might have observed, the pitch might slow down in the 2nd half and it’s a pitch where batting first would make more sense considering the wicket might become neutral by the 2nd half. The initial challenge would be to withstand the first few overs and after that the batters will find it relatively easier to score runs.
