CWG 2022: Confident New Zealand Face Struggling South Africa In Their First Game

CWG 2022: Pool B Teams New Zealand will take on South Africa in the 3rd match of the Commonwealth Games at Edgbaston. Both the players are equally formidable even though they have some main players missing from the squads due to medical tensions and injuries. The plus point for South Africa is New Zealand hasn’t played a single T20 game since February and they might look rusty initially while on the other hand South Africa recently played against England gaining good experience in both ODI and T20I. Even though they lost but it was a learning curve for the SA Team.

As it has been observed in the last 2 matches, the wicket seems to be favouring the batters and batting first would certainly be on both the skipper’s minds. Any team batting first would aim to score anywhere around 170-180 which would be a good total to defend on any given day.

Key Players to Watch out for:

Suzie Bates (New Zealand):

With close to 9000 International runs and 268 International outings, a lot will depend on their stable head of Suzie. Not just as a batter but also as the senior member of the Team. Suzie is known for giving good starts and she can bat long playing the anchors role.

Sophie Devine (New Zealand):

Sophie- the Captain of the New Zealand Team is also one of the experienced batters in the team along with Suzie. Both these players will play a crucial role at the top of the order if New Zealand has to make a big total on the board. Sophie has played for so far 230 International Games with close to 6000 runs.

Shabnam Ismail (South Africa):

Probably the best bowler in Women’s Cricket at present, Shabnam is to South Africa what Jhulan Goswami is to India. Shabnam has over 300+ International wickets which speak itself about her importance in the playing XI for South Africa.

Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa)

With a stunning batting average of close to 46.00 in One Dayers, Laura is an equally impactful batter for SA in T20’s. On her day, she can craft an innings which can potentially take SA home. All but 23yrs old, Laura is hailed as the next big thing of SA Women’s Cricket and it will be interesting to see how she carried herself & takes up the challenge in Commonwealth Games.
