Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu created history by becoming the first-ever Sri Lankan cricketer to make it to the ICC rankings in the ODI games. Quite recently Athapaththu helped her team win their first-ever series against New Zealand. The ODI series helped her escalate her personal records and jumped 6 places upward to replace Beth Mooney, becoming the top ODI batter.
Athapaththu scored 108 runs in the first ODI game and secured 140 in the 3rd game of just 80 deliveries which helped her team win the two games and secure the series against New Zealand. Her contribution was not only crucial but also very steady, skillful and quick, which helped the team immensely.
Chamari Athapaththu escalated over players like Mooney, Laura Wolvaardt, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Meg Lanning, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana and dropped them all by a rank.
Chamari Athapaththu has joined the league of male Sri Lankan cricketers to top the ICC rankings.
Her 190 runs partnership with Nilakshi De Silva will also reminisce for years to come. All this has contributed to the player’s accomplishments, making her the finest in ODI cricket, presently.
