WHITE FERNS batter Brooke Halliday will be unavailable for selection for the rest of the ODI Series against India after coming into close contact with a COVID-19 case. Halliday has dined outside with her partner, who subsequently tested positive for the virus, and she was therefore required to isolate herself in the hotel room for seven days as well.
However, Halliday has returned a negative Covid-19 test yesterday. She will be tested again on day five of her isolation and if she returns another negative test, she can finish her isolation period and join the team again on Friday as well.
Meanwhile, both Brooke Halliday and her partner have followed all the government rules and health protocols. Alongside her, Lea Tahuhu, Maddy Green and Fran Jonas are also unavailable for the fourth ODI against India. Notably, both Green and Jonas have sustained lacerations to their right hands and will continue to be monitored for the upcoming days.
“She’s remaining upbeat” – Bob Carter on Brooke Halliday
On the other hand, Lea Tahuhu will miss the game, as a precaution, after she left the field in ODI 3. She can play as a substitute fielder in the game if required. Meanwhile, WHITE FERNS head coach Bob Carter has said that the team was rallying around Brooke Halliday and the injured players in the team as well.
“This is obviously a frustrating time for Brooke. But she’s remaining upbeat, and as a team we’re supporting her and checking in on her by phone etc. Of course, we’re looking forward to her re-joining the team once she’s met the appropriate protocols,” Carter said.
“Maddy and Fran both injured their hands while practicing. We are monitoring their individual situations and are hopeful of a quick recovery for both. We didn’t want to risk Lea bowling in ODI 4, especially with a World Cup just around the corner,” Carter concluded.
