BCB to Arrange Games for Their U-19 Team Ahead of the World Cup

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has prepared a year-long plan for the Under-19 cricket team before the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup. Notably, after a lot of discussions, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally managed to have the maiden edition of the U-19 World Cup. However, Bangladesh will host the inaugural edition of the league in December this year.

Earlier, it was scheduled to take place at the beginning of 2021, but it was delayed due to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic across the globe that put everything into a standstill. Meanwhile, to prepare them for the mega event, the BCB has decided to bring them in action soon once again with a three-week-long workout plan after the COVID-enforced break.

The training will begin at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium from February 11 after the tests of the COVID-19 for the players and coaching staff and the related-staff as well. While speaking about this, the in-charge of the Bangladesh Women’s Under-19 team, Tawhid Mahmood, said that they are trying their best to arrange a few series for them at home as well as away to make them prepare for the marquee event on home soil.

“We are trying our best to arrange a couple of series for the Women’s Under19 cricket team. It could be a home and away series either,” said Tawhid Mahmood to The Independent. “We are in final talks with a slew of countries, but we could not disclose it before finalising any of them. You know, there are a little bit of problems because of the concerns over Covid-19.”

“All remain busy with the national teams. Many of them can’t want to be involved in games of the age-level cricket. But we are continuing our talks with other cricket boards to organise the series and tournament,” he again shared.

However, to do that, the BCB has decided a pool of players at divisional level after a long trial for the last one and half years alongside its appointed coaches and the local coaches as well. Meanwhile, the BCB has also hosted a tournament from where they chose 45 cricketers for the preliminary squad. Even they had practice sessions in Cox’s Bazar before the COVID-19 put a full stop on everything.

Since the situation all over the world has been slowing getting into the zone, it can be expected that the U-19 Women’s World Cup would take place at the decided time in Bangladesh.
