BAN vs IND: The three-match T20I series between India and Bangladesh women has come to an end, with Bangladesh securing the final game. A good game for Bangladesh, successfully chasing down the set target, but India secures the series title, winning by 2-1.

India was again off to a slow start and wasn’t able to set a defendable score. Although they had successfully defended their low score against Bangladesh in the recent match, they weren’t able to repeat their luck today.

The third game at Sher-E-Bangla, was the final opportunity for Bangladesh to retaliate and register a win, avoiding a clean sweep. The team lost the toss and was compelled to chase. But the bowlers did play a major part in restricting the Indian side to a low score in the first inning.

The first inning didn’t seem to favour India. Smriti Mandhana, who opened with Shafali Verma was caught on the very second delivery. Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues then set their stance and played a few reliable deliveries.

While Jemimah secured a quick 28 runs in 26 deliveries, she played at a strike rate of 107. Jemimah hasn’t been able to score huge in the past few matches. After Verma’s wicket on Sultana Khatun’s delivery, Jemimah was also lost. Harmanpreet Kaur then maintained the team’s poise and contributed a much-needed 40 runs in 41 deliveries.

Some brilliant presentation of skills by Sultana Khatun, Rabeya Khatun and Shorna Akter. While Rabeya picked 3 wickets, Sultana picked 2 major wickets of Shafali Verma and of Smriti Mandhana.

With this, Bangladesh needed 103 runs to secure the final game. This was the last chance for Bangladesh to redeem. Shathi Rani Bormon opened the bat with Shamima Sultana. The two played quite a few overs together until Bormon lost her wicket on Minnu Mani’s delivery. She played some quick 10 runs at a strike rate of 111. Dilara Akter too lost her early wicket on Mani’s delivery.

India did seem to have some rays of hope after two early wickets. But Bangladesh batters held ground and with Shamima Sultana’s brilliant batting, their hopes rose to glory. With Shamima Sultana holding firm stance on one end, batters like Nigar Sultana and Sultana Khatun batted on the other end. Although Bangladesh lost some major wickets on the side, Shamima indeed played a poised game and brought Bangladesh closer to victory.

With her 42 runs contribution, Shamima Sultana lost her wicket and Nahida Akter then closed the deal for Bangladesh by scoring the winning runs. Great efforts from Bangladesh that led them to victory in 18.2 overs sparing 4 more wickets.
