AUS vs PAK: Beth Mooney, Meg Lanning Star As Australia Complete A Whitewash In The ODI Series

AUS vs PAK: Pakistan’s misery ended in the ODI series as they lost the 3rd ODI even after producing their best batting effort so far on the tour. Another day and another comprehensive win for the Australian side, courtesy of a stunning century from Beth Mooney and a fifty from the captain, Meg Lanning.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Pakistan got the wicket of the in-form Phoebe Litchfield for the first time in the series with the score at just 19. The experienced duo of Beth Mooney and skipper Meg Lanning stitched a decisive 160-run partnership. They took Australia to a position of dominance. The former scored a brilliant 133 off just 105 balls. Her innings had 14 boundaries and 4 sixes. Lanning, on the other hand, scored a brisk 70-ball 72 before being dismissed by Diana Baig.

The two new-ball bowlers for Pakistan, Baig and Fatima Sana performed well and picked 2 and 3 wickets respectively. Nida Dar also bowled well and picked up a couple of wickets. All the other bowlers gave runs at an economy rate of over 6. Australia finished with 336/9 in their stipulated 50 overs.

Coming into bat with a daunting target to chase, Pakistani openers, Sadaf Shamas and Sidra Ameen got off their team off to a sedate start. Shamas was the first one to be dismissed with the score at 61 in 13.5 overs. Captain Bismah Maroof came to the crease and top scored for Pakistan with 44 runs from 71 deliveries. The likes of Nida Dar and Muneeba Ali scored in excess of 20. However, their strike rates never worried the Aussie bowlers.

In the end, Pakistan ended with 235 for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Ashleigh Gardner was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 3 wickets while giving away just 30 runs in her 10 overs. Beth Mooney finished the series as the highest run scorer (191) while Gardner and Darcie Brown were tied with the most number of wickets (5).

The T20I series is up next. The first of the 3 T20Is will be played in Sydney on January 24.
