Asian Games 2023 Quarter-finals: Rain Washes Games As India, Pakistan Lead To The Semifinals

The Asian Games 2023 Quarter-finals were interrupted due to rain. The game between India and Malaysia was highly sought after, as the game was to give us the first semi-finalist for the Asian Games 2023. Rain played its folly. Rodrigues also contributed immensely, securing 47 off 29 deliveries. After Verma was lost on Mas Elysa’s delivery, Rodrigues carried the game forward alongside Richa Ghosh. Richa Ghosh also contributed some quick runs (21 off just 7 deliveries), playing at a strike rate of 300. But showers washed off the efforts of the Indian upper-order batters.

In 15 overs, the Indian team had secured a total of 173 runs at a loss of 2 wickets in the Asian Games 2023. India played the fastest game ever, playing at a run rate of 11.53. The heavy showers made it almost impossible for the game to revive. Having waited for a few hours, the game was brought down to 15 overs. Malaysia needed 174 runs to win and elevate to the semifinals in a total of 15 overs. But having faced two deliveries, the rains poured down, having stolen all the shine off the game.

The game was called off due to rain. India having displayed brilliant play throughout escalated to the semifinals. The second Quarterfinal game between Pakistan and Indonesia was also abandoned due to rain. Pakistan got the upper hand due to their impressive performance and escalated to the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2023, defeating Indonesia.
