The ACC Women’s T20 Championship will return after nine years. The Malaysian Cricket Association will host the Championship that will continue to take place from Friday (June 17) to June 25, 2022. Ten teams will take part in the tournament with the top two making it to the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup as well. Kinrara Oval and YSD UKM Oval will host the matches where UAE, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Nepal, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Bahrain, Singapore and Bhutan will play. However, the 10 teams will be divided into two groups and take on each other once. The top two from each group will then reach the semifinals as well.

Jay Shah, President of the Asian Cricket Council, has shared his delight at the return of the tournament. “The last time the ACC Women’s T20 Championship was in 2013,” he stated. “The revival is long overdue, and this, I believe, will set the tone for us to move faster towards the development of women’s pathway programmes in Asia. The development of women’s cricket programmes is an integral component that must be pushed forward. With this tournament, in addition to India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Thailand, two more countries will be awarded the opportunity to make it to the Asia Cup.”

However, this is the first in the history of the ACC Women’s T20 Championship, where, the top two qualifying teams will play in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
