Smriti Mandhana equalled Harmanpreet Kaur’s record for most sixes (52) by an Indian woman in ODIs. Such performances highlight the growing aggression and power-hitting capabilities in women’s cricket.
This was Smriti’s 10th ODI century, making her the first Indian woman to achieve this milestone. She now shares third place on the all-time list for most centuries in women’s ODIs, alongside England’s Tammy Beaumont. Only Australia’s Meg Lanning (15 centuries) and New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (13 centuries) have more.
Smriti Mandhana and Rawal have achieved two consecutive 150-plus partnerships, with their latest being a 156-run stand in 19 overs on Sunday. Before this, only three other pairs in Women’s ODIs had back-to-back 150-plus partnerships: Denise Emerson and Jill Kennare (AUS-W, 1985), Rachael Haynes and Alyssa Healy (AUS-W, 2022), and Chamari Athapaththu and Nilakshika Silva (SL-W, 2023-24).
Smriti Mandhana and Rawal have achieved four-century opening partnerships in just six innings, making it the second most for India Women in ODIs. They are only behind Anju Jain and Jaya Sharma, who have five in 27 innings, and Karuna Jain and Jaya Sharma, who also have five in 25 innings.
There have been three instances of both Indian openers scoring hundreds in an ODI innings, including today. The previous two instances were also against Ireland, featuring Reshma Gandhi and Mithali Raj at Milton Keynes in 1999, and Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut at Potchefstroom in 2017. Overall, there have been 13 instances of both openers scoring hundreds in a Women’s ODI innings, with six of them coming against Ireland.
Smriti Mandhana struck seven sixes during her 80-ball 135, which is the joint-most for India in an ODI innings. This record is shared with Harmanpreet Kaur, who hit as many during her historic 171* off 115 balls against Australia Women in the 2017 World Cup semi-final. Mandhana has also equalled Harmanpreet for the most sixes for India in the format, with 52.
