Phoebe Litchfield Wins NSW Country Player of the Year Award

The NSW Country Cricket Award have revealed the winners for the 2019-20 season. Youngster Phoebe Litchfield, 17, named New South Wales’ female country player of the year. The teenage left-hander had a stupendous year both in Women’s Big Bash League (WBB) and Women’s National Cricket League (WNC).

Litchfield plays for Sydney Thunder and New South Wales (NSW) in WBBL and WNCL respectively. She also won the Alex Blackwell medal earlier this month. In her debut for Sydney Thunder, she has shown a great impact. During the second game, she scored an unbeaten 52 and helped her side win the game by 7 wickets against Brisbane Heat.

There she supported veteran Alex Blackwell pretty well who scored a 27-ball 42 in their 151-run chase. Phoebe Litchfield impressed everyone with her free-flowing batting. Even she had a remarkable season in WNCL as well where she scored over 250 runs. She smashed an unbeaten 82 and helped her side win against Australian Capital Territory.

Phoebe Litchfield also got the chance in Australia A T20 team against India A last year and the Governor-General’s XI in January this year. She again showed her calibre while playing for the GG XI against India where he smashed two towering sixes off Radha Yadav. She even played in the Bushfire Cricket Bash along with the legends like Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist etc.

The league also witnessed batting legend Sachin Tendulkar bat for the first time in five and a half years after his retirement. He faced Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry. On the other hand, Naomi McDonald won the Best Female Player Award for NSW Country at the Country Championships. She has scored 256 runs in the tournament which came at an average of 32.
